As NOCCA enters its seventy-second season, we are looking for
futuristic visionaries to take on the role of President and Vice-President
of the North Okanagan’s longest running and most enduring presenter
of live music.
NOCCA is financially healthy, owns arguably the best concert Steinway
in the Okanagan at least, has a dedicated core of volunteers, presents
young performers to open its performances, and already has the 2025-
2026 season planned and booked.
The retiring president and vice-president will be available to smooth
the transition process and assist where necessary with the
organizational needs.
If you are keen to find out more or offer your services, please respond
at http://www.nocca.ca.
We would love to hear from you!

Thank you for your very kind comments Suzie. Paul and I have had a great time with NOCCA the past couple of years and we’ve enjoyed working with each other.
Paul and I agreed to a two year term and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone by. It has been a lot of work … many phone calls … lunch meetings … a lot of computer work for me (the programs, season cards and website graphics) and it’s time to enjoy retirement and not be as committed … or my wife might commit me.
It’s Jim Boyd and Janet Parkins you’re thinking about and they were both incredible people to have on the board of NOCCA. I’ve knows Joan Sasges since great 8 … that’s 52 years. I must be old. lol
NOCCA’s AGM is coming up on June 10th and we’re not sure who might sliding into the President’s chair but we’re hoping someone will step forward. I understand your thought for Rosemary Thomson but I think she lives in Kelowna so that would present challenges in itself. Undoubtedly she has amazing contacts and probably mostly in and around Kelowna. NOCCA really needs someone who is local to keep the momentum of NOCCA moving forward and encouraging people to join the NOCCA group.
As you’ve probably discovered, NOCCA has returned to all evening performances for the upcoming season and we understand evening performances go over better than an afternoon matinee.
It’s always great to hear from you and I’m glad to know you have supported NOCCA for so many years!
See you at the concert in October with David Fung. Take care and have a great summer!
Jay
Vice President
NOCCA
(for just a few more days!)
Both Paul Mayes and Jay Schappert will be hugely missed!
I have known both for many years – Paul from both the Vernon Jazz Club, NOCCA and musical events in general, and Jay in a former life with a local printing company, and of course NOCCA.
I’ve known others on the Board for a long time too … Cathie Stewart, Joan Sagas, and more recently got to know Jim Boyd his wife Janet (Parker?) not mentioned as a Past Board member on the NOCCA website ‘About Us’
They have all been part of the stalwart and amazing NOCCA Team, coping with factors far beyond their control! An aging population / audience which this season past saw larger audiences at the afternoon performances. Undoubtedly due to availability now returned to evenings for the upcoming season.
A thought struck me entirely out-of—blue … with no tangible suggestion as to who might fill both Paul and Jay’s shoes, might Rosemary Thomson -former Maestra with the Okanangan Symphony be someone to approach … as conductor and all-round musical phenomenon, she just might have some ideas. Rosemary definitely has ‘contacts’ !!
Feeling somewhat inadequate in my comments I look forward to further developments! Sincerely –
