Music is our passion! The North Okanagan Community Concert Association (NOCCA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1953 to promote ‘Diversity & Excellence in Music’. Our very first concert was held in the old Fulton school building, which was then known as the Vernon High School. The artist was Jorge Bolet, a Cuban pianist, who brought his own piano with him! NOCCA now presents its concerts in the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.
We are very pleased to be able to bring top musicians to Vernon for all to enjoy! We present a series of 5 concerts per year. Our concert season usually runs from October through April or May, featuring primarily Canadian artists but with an occasional international flavor. The music is mainly classically chamber or choral, but can range to jazz or world music. Each concert opens with an auditioned, local youth performer in our ‘Warming Up the Act’ program.
In 2016, 2018 and 2020 NOCCA presented the ‘North Okanagan Youth Showcase of Excellence’ or NOYSE – a program of auditioned performances by young musicians, vocalists, and dancers from the North Okanagan and Shuswap.
NOCCA owns the 9 ft Steinway D concert grand piano that resides at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre. This exceptional, newly rebuilt Hamburg Steinway is played by NOCCA performers as well as other performers at the Performing Arts Centre, and is also available for community pianists and piano groups to rent (see piano).
We gratefully acknowledge generous support from the BC Touring Council for our main concert series, NOYSE, and our ‘Warming Up the Act’ program.
Tickets for the concert season or for individual concerts can be purchased from Vernon Ticketseller.
