NOCCA (North Okanagan Community Concert Association) has made
significant changes to their concert presentations. According to
association president Paul Maynes, NOCCA will present concerts as a
Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM for its next three performances, February
23, March 30, and May 4.
“COVID took a toll on all the performing arts and our audience has
struggled to return to its former subscription base. We’re hoping that
the matinee timing will appeal to younger families as well as seniors
and make our music more accessible to the community.”
The NOCCA concert in February features a tribute to the amazing
Canadian swing jazz icon, Oscar Peterson, as presented by the Remi
Bolduc Jazz Ensemble from Montreal. There will also be a guest
appearance by local chanteuse, Judy Rose, who will be performing
some of her amazing Ella Fitzgerald renditions with the Ensemble.
Opening for the February concert will be young guitarist, Jeremy
Fehlauer, student of Ken Scott at the Vernon Community Music
School.

Tickets for the February 23rd concert are available through Ticket Seller at this link: https://www.ticketseller.ca/tickets/event/remi-bolduc-jazz-ensemble.
Tickets for all NOCCA events are available through Ticket Seller at 250-
549-7469 or at http://www.ticketseller.ca.

Hi Robyn,
Thank you for your suggestion about co-ordinating with The Powerhouse Theatre regarding conflicting performance dates but I’m not sure what that would look like in coordinating with them.
NOCCA books our artists sometimes up to fifteen (15) months before the actual performance date. As you are probably aware, the Performing Arts Centre juggles a tremendous amount of artists vying for dates principally between September to May. Sometimes NOCCA has second and third holds on a date hoping the first hold might back down from their date commitment. We also have to co-ordinate around the artists availability schedules and their traveling schedules. Are they on a tour and Vernon is a one concert stop or are they coming here for a one time concert performance. There are many things to consider a year in advance.
I’m not aware of how often the Powerhouse Theatre rents out their stage, but, of course, Powerhouse would have first access to dates they want to present on. Please remember that Powerhouse artists are all local performers while NOCCA artists come from around the world.
When NOCCA presented our 2024-2025 season last May, the concert start times were talked about, the showcard had the times, the lobby banner had the times and the page in the Performing Arts Centre brochure for NOCCA specified the times.
In previous years, our best concert attendance were the Sunday matinees that gave families the opportunity to attend. Evening shows didn’t quite work for parents who were juggling getting homework accomplished and bedtimes for their children.
Personally, I teach piano and some of my students are now able to attend a couple of upcoming Sunday matinee concerts and I’m thrilled for that opportunity.
We are always looking for new board members (we are a fun bunch!) as our executive is small and some of us wear more than one hat. We would welcome you to the board and could easily find a spot for your talents.
NOCCA understands that you may not be purchase a season ticket for the 2025-2026 season and we completely understand.

Vice President
NOCCA
Thank you for your inquiry about discounts for Kelowna Community Concert subscribers. We have not had a reciprocal agreement with Kelowna for several years now but perhaps it is something to consider again. I shall bring it up at the next executive meeting.
Again, thank you for your interest and support of our change to our Sunday matinee presentation.
Yours truly,
Paul Maynes
President, NOCCA
Thank you for your comments regarding the changes to our programming to Sunday afternoon matinees. These changes have been made in response to both seniors and parents in an attempt to allow all ages to attend a concert during the winter months and during daylight hours for ease of transportation and access to family time hours. At this point, it is “an experiment” to see how ticket sales respond.
Yours truly,
Paul Maynes
President, NOCCA
Please, if you continue this plan next season, co-ordinate with Powerhouse theatre, so you don’t clash with their Sunday matinee. I have a season ticket to Powerhouse, with my seat reserved for their one and only Sunday matinee at 2 pm. When NOCCA suddenly changed to a matinee, it fell on the same dates as my maatinee tickets in February and May. So, I had to change my ticket to Powerhouse to an evening performance with a different seat. So, I simply gained a matinee show (which is great), but also lost one. I hope you plan better next season, otherwise, I may not purchase a NOCCA season ticket. Please co-ordinate, Robyn T.
