Community Concert Association Announces Program Changes

NOCCA (North Okanagan Community Concert Association) has made
significant changes to their concert presentations. According to
association president Paul Maynes, NOCCA will present concerts as a
Sunday matinee at 2:00 PM for its next three performances, February
23, March 30, and May 4.

“COVID took a toll on all the performing arts and our audience has
struggled to return to its former subscription base. We’re hoping that
the matinee timing will appeal to younger families as well as seniors
and make our music more accessible to the community.”

The NOCCA concert in February features a tribute to the amazing
Canadian swing jazz icon, Oscar Peterson, as presented by the Remi
Bolduc Jazz Ensemble from Montreal. There will also be a guest
appearance by local chanteuse, Judy Rose, who will be performing
some of her amazing Ella Fitzgerald renditions with the Ensemble.

Opening for the February concert will be young guitarist, Jeremy
Fehlauer, student of Ken Scott at the Vernon Community Music
School.

  1. Dear NOCCA, Are you still affiliated with Kelowna Community Concerts with preferred pricing for their members? If so, what are the details?

Thank you for changing over to afternoon concerts, much preferred especially during the winter months. Sincerely, Ella van Dinther

  2. For us, as active retirees, a Sunday afternoon matinee blows away the whole day and will likely mean we do not renew our subscription with this model if the same applies in 25-26. In our view NOCCA needs to attract a vastly younger audience, which may mean some radical changes in the type of music we present. Has the NOCCA board considered teaming with other groups like the Jazz Club or the Folk Roots Society to run jointly organized concerts?

  3. Hi Marie,

Thank you for your kind comment about returning to Sunday Matinee concerts. In looking back at past attendance numbers, we found that the matinee concerts were some of our best attended and we were thrilled to be able to add Sunday concerts back into the routine of NOCCA. We hope that folks who don’t want to be out in the evening or drive in the evenings will come out to experience some world class artists in the afternoon!

We have our 2025-2026 season all lined up and we’re excited to share who will be on the NOCCA stage with everyone at our March 30th concert with The Bergmann’s.

Thank you for your continued support of NOCCA.
